New York Heartwoods is a woman-owned and operated bespoke fabrication studio. At the center of our practice is the endeavor to create solutions to a changing climate and capture the natural beauty of Hudson Valley forests by using wood from storm-fallen and urban trees. We specialize in the transformation of site-based trees into sustainable heirloom-quality wood furniture and finished surfaces for residential and commercial applications. Our desire is to connect and share our deep love for design, process, and the natural world by producing enduring pieces which bring a tranquil elegance into the spaces they inhabit. Our aim is to build exquisite objects imbued with story and rooted in place, while reducing waste and conserving forests.

Our workshop is situated in a hyper-sustainable 100% solar powered workshop in Accord, NY, designed and built to reflect our values. We donate to forest conservation and urban forestry programs and seek to have the smallest carbon footprint possible. Our wood scraps and sawdust are donated to local businesses, including farmers, landscapers, ceramicists, and bakers.

New York Heartwoods has had the privilege of being featured in such publications as Architectural Digest, Dwell Magazine, Remodelista, 1stdibs - The Study, and Martha Stewart, and have worked with clients including Clodagh Design, Hadley Wiggins, Eileen Fisher, Etsy Inc., and DIA Art Foundation.

“We can continue pushing our earth out of balance, with greenhouse gases accelerating each year, or we can regain balance by acknowledging that if we harm one species, one forest, one lake, this ripples through the entire complex web … The rest of the planet has been waiting patiently for us to figure that out. Making this transformation requires that humans reconnect with nature - the forests, the prairie, the oceans -instead of treating everything and everyone as objects for exploitation.”
